Real Food Rescue: A History
Hi, I’m Andrew—founder of Eating Rules, creator of the October Unprocessed Challenge, blogger, speaker, advocate and lover of real food.
Way back in October of 2009 I was struck by the revelation that while I’d been a vegetarian since I was 15, I was mostly eating processed food “products” with ingredients I couldn’t identify, let alone pronounce. So, I challenged myself to go an entire month without eating processed foods. That month changed my life.
The following year I started Eating Rules and decided to try it again in a bigger way. Fast-forward to today, and now more than 30,000 people have taken my October Unprocessed Challenge! I’ve had the opportunity to spread the real food word with features in New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Eating Well Magazine, and more.
Many people (myself included) have turned that 30-day challenge into a permanent lifestyle. Which is why I wanted to create a program based on tried-and-true principles, to help people make the move to an unprocessed, real food diet whenever they’re ready. There are eleven other months in the year, no need to limit it to just October, am I right? So here we are. Are you ready to get real?
This program has permanently changed the way we eat. We will definitely not be going back to all the boxed, canned, frozen, and take-out junk food that we used to eat. I love sitting down with my family for a wholesome, whole foods meal. I love knowing that the food I send in my children’s lunches is nourishing their mind and body.
I am more conscious of what I eat and how to make the right choices. I plan to keep up with the program as a lifestyle change. I am feeling much better and proud of what I can accomplish. Thank you!
